1)I have now been working as a Clinical Dietitian at Bellevue Hospital for a year now. I can definitely say there are ups and downs..but looking back now to all that I've seen and done
, I can't imagine a better hospital to be at for the start of my career. Bellevue's a ginormous teaching hospital & the flagship facility for the largest city health/hospital corporation in the nation. Pretty much any disease or condition is fair game for the place and of course it's famous for its in-patient psychiatric units. ..in other words, no day is a dull day at work.
I'm mostly responsible for the oncology unit - which doubles as a general medicine unit. But I also have an adult psychiatric unit, a prison psych unit (patients from Riker's & elsewhere), and the drug/etoh detox unit. As if that wasn't enough diversity, I usually have at least one consult to complete from a random unit around the hospital (covering for another dietitian). Doing those consults & covering the whole hospital on an occasional weekend has really given me a thorough base to build from.My coworkers are a blast as well - everyone has their quirks and we are s
uch a unique group of people! (a true mix of personalities, nationalities, religions, backgrounds, ages) I'm proud to represent the only: blonde, married woman, & midwesterner on staff. Here's a picture of a few of us..and Kerri's in the Carebear costume. Don't ask...2) David started
grad school! So being the super optimistic man he is, David had been sensing that journalism in a few years might not be quite what it has been...so he figured it was about time to diversify & start working on a back-up. He's now almost halfway finshed with a Master's of Science in Sports Business at NYU. (Side note: Working full time and being a full time student - I don't know how he does it). Who knows where this will take him (us) though - doors/connections seem to be opening left and right. Of course, I'm rooting for that door straight to Athletic Director at KSU (..but I'm not holding my breath). And for the time being, he doesn't seem to mind interviewing Edward Norton for the NYC marathon, lunching it up with boxers, or covering the Yanks in the World Series =)3)We moved into the city! Okay, some may say "wait, you were already living in Brooklyn..". Yes, but here, "the city" means Manhattan...the other boroughs don't count. Plus I can definitely attest that they feel a world away from each other, even if it really is just a few miles. We're rockin it in a Midtown high-rise apartment - only SIX blocks from my work. And only a short bus ride or 1.5 mile walk from David's office.

4)We are Aunt Kelly and Uncle David for the first time! David's brother & sister-in-law had
Simon Skretta March 20th, 2009!
I'm pretty sure he's the cutest little dude in history. I'm soooo sad I haven't been able to meet him in person yet though. (They live in Virginia).5)Ron Prince is toast and Bill Snyder is back! I had to throw that in there cuz it's a change and the Wildcats are now leading the Big 12 North - not exactly fabulous, but I've got hope!
6)Some things that haven't changed...we still have spike and homie (our plants), we still don't have a dog, and we are most certainly not pregnant. I'm working on the dog thing though...David's stubborn.
Sweet. I broke the ice. Back in the blogging world. I feel so accomplished as I sit here in my pjs at 8:30 watching the Biggest Loser & live Twitter feed. What is this world coming to...
